Ian is an experienced lawyer who has advised clients on all aspects of corporate and commercial law. His clients have included companies both listed on the ASX and non-listed ones. He has acted for many companies from Asia, particularly Japan, Korea and China. Ian has been a professional non-executive company director for over 20 years. Before joining H & H Lawyers as a senior consultant, he was Chairman and Senior Partner of one of Australia’s largest law firms, Freehills (now Herbert Smith Freehills), a global firm and one of the largest law firms in the world.

Experience

  • Ian has been the Chairman or a director of companies across a broad range of industries and services, including investment banking, financial services, life and general insurance, mining and energy, property, transport, hotels, infrastructure and health. He is Chairman and President of the Global Innovation Foundation in New York.

  • Ian has had considerable experience in property for over 20 years, commercial, industrial and residential, as a director of the Australand Group in Australia, one of Australia’s largest property groups then listed on the ASX, and also as a director of the PropertyLink property group, also a major property group and then listed on the ASX.

  • Ian has been actively involved in the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has given presentations to Company Directors and assisted in training and mentoring directors. He was on the International Committee of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

  • Ian has had wide experience in Asia as a director of Japanese and Chinese owned companies and has given presentations to both State and privately held enterprises about the operation of boards of Directors.

  • Ian has participated in and led Australian business delegations to China.

We are pleased to announce that Ian Hutchinson has joined our firm as a Senior Consultant. Having been a Chairman and a Senior Partner of one of the Australia’s largest law firms, Freehills (now Herbert Smith Freehills), Ian has extensive experience in multiple areas of corporate law. Additionally, for over 20 years he has served as a non-executive director on the boards of some reputable ASX-listed and private companies. These companies span a broad range of industries and services, including investment banking, financial services, insurance, mining and energy, real estate, transportation & infrastructure, hospitability and health. As a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Ian is actively involved in training, mentoring and hosting seminars for company directors. We expect Ian to draw on his experience as a long-standing leader and adviser in the legal and corporate fields to challenge us to become a better firm, and we look forward to the direction and insight he will bring to our practice.
